Motihari Brigade have released “The Great Refusal” a single from their new album “Problematic” coming out on June 25, 2026 (George Orwell’s birthday.)
“The Great Refusal is upon us, and karma’s gonna be a bitch” observe the lyrics of this timely comment on the impact of artificial intelligence. The music is driven by a razor-edged guitar riff, an acrobatic bassline, and a throbbing heartbeat of drums.
Motihari Brigade have also released a YouTube lyric video to accompany the new song, which ironically embraces the obvious contradiction of sending a dire warning about the threat of artificial intelligence, while using artificial intelligence.
Fictional tech-oligarch Elon Oppenheimer calls The Great Refusal “…an encouraging cultural statement for listeners who crave the illusion that resistance is still possible.”
The public radio themed podcast “It’s The Art’s, Stupid” hosted a debate on whether the song’s use of the word “bitch” in the context of a common idiomatic expression meaning a ‘difficulty’ is offensive content. The question for the panel is does the song violate FCC guidelines for offensive content? Or does it fall under the precedent established by Elton John’s 1974 hit “The Bitch Is Back” – which was played extensively on the radio, and became a massive hit. Arguing in favor of playing “The Great Refusal” on the radio is Aphrodite the ancient Greek Goddess of Love. Arguing against the proposition is Mike, an automated chatbot.
Motihari Brigade assure the public that their new album was crafted by real flesh and blood human musicians using genuine internal organs.
An early review by ChatGPT, who somehow had pre-release access to the album, commented, “I never could have come up with this album in a million prompts. But now that it’s out there in my training data – Yoink!”
“Problematic” is Motihari Brigade’s third album, and the invention of guitarist, singer, and songwriter Eric Winston. The band derives its name from Motihari, India, birthplace of their truth-seeking spirit animal George Orwell.
Problematic is scheduled for release on June 25, 2026 (George Orwell’s birthday) and will be available through popular digital streaming and download services, and on compact disc.
“Rock-n-Roll Thoughtcrime” can still save us. Keep asking questions. Be problematic.
